Uilliam Barros Suspended as Persib Prepare for Crucial AFC Champions League Two Playoff
Persib Bandung will face Manila Digger in the AFC Champions League Two 2026/2027 playoff on Monday, August 31, but they will have to cope without Brazilian forward Uilliam Barros. The match will take place at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung Regency, with a place in the group stage at stake in this single-match encounter.
Barros is unavailable because of an AFC suspension stemming from a red card he received against Rathcaburi FC in last season’s Round of 16. The dismissal followed a heavy challenge on Jonathan Khemdee, which resulted in an additional punishment from the continental governing body. Besides missing two matches, Barros was also fined USD 1,500.
The absence is particularly disappointing for the forward, who had hoped to contribute directly in such an important fixture. Persib are aiming to advance to the AFC Champions League Two group stage, and Barros remains eager to play a role in the club’s continental campaign despite being forced to watch this particular match from the sidelines.
Persib enter the playoff with positive memories from their previous meeting with Manila Digger. The Bandung side defeated the Philippine club 2-1 last year, giving them confidence ahead of another meeting. The team will be looking to produce another strong performance at home and secure progression to the next stage of the competition.
Although he cannot play, Barros is determined to support his teammates from the stands.
