Arema FC Unveil Mauro Zijlstra as Their Latest Addition for the 2026/2027 Season

Arema FC have officially introduced Mauro Zijlstra as their latest signing ahead of the 2026/2027 Super League campaign. The 21-year-old striker was presented to supporters before Arema's friendly match against RANS Nusantara FC at Kanjuruhan Stadium on Saturday, August 22. Although he did not feature in the game, Zijlstra stepped onto the pitch before kickoff to greet the fans and begin his new chapter with the Singo Edan.

The arrival of Zijlstra is expected to strengthen Arema FC's attacking options for the upcoming season. The forward previously played for FC Volendam before joining Persija Jakarta during the second half of the 2025/2026 season. However, his time in Jakarta was disrupted by fitness problems, which prevented him from establishing himself as a regular member of the first team.

During his spell with Persija, Zijlstra made only four Super League appearances and accumulated 93 minutes on the pitch. He was never given a full match and was unable to register either a goal or an assist. His limited opportunities were further complicated by injury, while Persija's decision to sign Alexander Jeremejeff made his chances of remaining with the club for the following season increasingly difficult.

The move to Arema provides Zijlstra with an opportunity to rebuild his career and secure more consistent playing time. At only 21, he still has plenty of time to develop his abilities and regain the confidence that made him an attractive attacking prospect. A stronger physical condition and regular involvement could allow him to make a much greater impact in Indonesian football.

For Arema FC, Zijlstra represents more than just an additional attacking option. The club will hope that his youth, previous experience and potential can contribute to their ambitions throughout the 2026/2027 campaign.
