Arema FC Let Four Points Slip as Defensive Problems Persist

Arema FC have dropped four valuable points from their last two BRI Super League 2026/2027 matches after being held to a 3-3 draw by PSM Makassar and a 1-1 draw against Persik Kediri. Both results were frustrating because Singo Edan had opportunities to secure victories but struggled to maintain their advantage until the final whistle.

Defensive concentration has emerged as a major concern during this early part of the season. Against PSM, Arema conceded a late equalizer after being in a position to claim all three points, while their meeting with Persik followed a different pattern as an early goal put them on the back foot before they eventually fought back for a draw.

New midfielder Raianderson da Costa Morais, better known as Careca, has been one of Arema’s standout performers at the start of the campaign. The Brazilian has scored twice in three appearances, including an impressive goal against PSM, while his attacking involvement has also been reflected in six attempts, with two finding the target.

Despite his personal contribution, Careca believes Arema still have room for improvement, particularly when it comes to maintaining concentration and making better use of their opportunities. He also felt that some of the goals conceded against PSM came from unpredictable situations rather than clearly structured attacking moves, highlighting how small moments can influence the final result.

The demanding schedule has added another challenge for Arema’s squad, with matches played at a high intensity and little room for recovery. Careca has made an immediate impact since joining the club for the 2026/2027 season, but the team will need greater consistency across all phases of play if they are to turn promising performances into victories and avoid dropping more points from winning positions.
